Your own Canary Islands telephone
number for just pennies a day
You may post this number on your Web site, print it on your business cards, or give it out to anyone who asks for it. It is a legitimate number which belongs to my good friend Andrew, a UK citizen who is a permanent resident on Lanzarote Island. The 14-digit number looks like this:
011-34-606-xxx-xxx
(The 011 is to make an international call from the USA. 34 is for Spain. 606 is the area code, followed by the local six-digit number.)
When someone calls you, they will hear a steady ring (indicating that this is a legitimate number) but no one will answer. If asked about this, you can honestly reply that you only answer the phone when you are on the island. And since you never are ...
If you order this number, you automatically agree that you will never use the number for any fraudulent or illegal purpose. This is most important because in Spain, there is no such thing as an anonymous number. Since the Taliban used cell phones in their attack on the Madrid train system, all land-line and cell phones in Spain must be registered in the true name and address of the owner.
